The retirement math, simplified
Three numbers matter most: when you stop working, what you spend at that point (inflated), and how long the money has to last. This calculator inflates today's expense to retirement, computes the corpus that funds inflation-adjusted withdrawals for the rest of your life, then backs out the monthly SIP today.
India-specific notes
- Healthcare inflation runs ~10% โ model a buffer for late-life medical.
- EPF + PPF + NPS often cover only half the requirement โ equity SIPs do the rest.
- Annuities in India yield 6โ6.5% โ model post-retirement returns conservatively.
It is a useful US-style heuristic but assumes 4% safe withdrawal. Indian inflation + longer life expectancy push the multiple to 30โ35ร.
Yes โ but stress test for healthcare, single-income shocks, and sequence-of-returns risk. Build a 24-month liquid buffer.
